GSM Game Review: Ancient Empires 1 & 2
Purchased @ Jamba
Version 1.0.2 (Ancient Empires II)
Played on Nokia 3210 and 6822
This is a turn-based RPG game that plays great on a cellphone. Because of the turnbased aspect you can play some moves, save the game and continue the game later. Ideal for those moments where you have a little time to fill.
The game is divided into missions and you start each mission with a few characters. A commander, a soldier, ... And often a castle and some buildings. The object of the game is to conquer the enemy or survive. You do this by strategicly move your characters across the playing field, attacking the enemy or defending yourself when being attacked. Certain chartacters are stronger against others, there are terrain modifiers (defense), you can buy additional characters with the money you gain from conquered cities. Pure RPG style. :-)
The graphics are rather basic but look very nice. Gameplay is simple, you have a clear overview of the game, actions are simple and intuitive. Yet the depth of the game is quiet good.
I played version 1 of this game on my old cellphone. After I finished the game I loved it so much that I just had to have the second version when it was released.
It is a great game that has been well designed for a cellphone. Imho the best game I ever played on a cellphone, and that includes tetris.
(which says a lot) ;-)
